Celestite is found in a number of locations worldwide, but specimens from Azerbaijan have a noticeably different character from the much more familiar material from Madagascar. Madagascan Celestite, particularly from the famous Sakoany deposit, is typically found as rounded geodes lined with pale sky-blue, often relatively clear crystals.
Azerbaijani material is far less commonly seen on the crystal market and can occur as more compact crystal clusters on natural matrix, giving the specimens a distinctly different appearance and formation style from the classic Madagascan geodes. This makes Azerbaijan an interesting locality for collectors who already know the more commonly available Madagascan material.
